My project for AS Photography Personal Creative Enquiry has been an overall success. For my project I had to create photographs on the topic of beneath the surface. I chose to research and look at Mental Health Disorders as part of my project. Originally I was looking at taking some underwater photographs to represent beneath the surface however this would be difficult to achieve. I completed my artist research on photographers who study and document depression and other mental disorders. Edward Honaker was a big influence and my experiments and photoshoots were often based on styles Edward Honaker used. Laura Hospes and Maren Klemp used similar design traits as Edward Honaker so naturally it was simple creating experiments and photoshoots in the style three artists. However Federico Bebbers work was more Digital Manipulation and different to the artists I looked at I was blown away by his work as it was creative and beautiful and so I wanted to experiment in his style and try to achieve similar photoshoots. I experimented in the style of Federico Bebber to create some digital manipulation and through this I was able to adapt and evolve my skills developing the technique to do the photoshoots. In the later photoshoots I used the influences and techniques that I learned and liked in Edwards Honkers and joined them with the style of Federico Bebber this developed my final piece ideas further. During a period of the next few weeks I experimented in the style of Laura Hospes and Maren Klemp to further test my camera skills and photography techniques digital and physical. This would them help me to create a better final outcome. Finally I started to experiment different ideas and drafts for my final design and how I wanted it to look. There was a short selection of bad ideas that either were to impractical or unconnected to my previous experiments and research. At the end I came up with my idea and I produced my final piece. As an added bonus to portray the final outcome it I printed my Final outcome on poster paper at Sunderland's Bridges ' The Photo Expert ' to hang up and display for people to view which will be surrounded by some of my other photoshoots.
In conclusion I have greatly enjoyed producing this work and doing this project throughout the past few months. I believe it has helped me gather an understanding for photography and digital manipulation and the importance of composition in the photographs and how everything from composition and camera controls to the light and vantage points are all important for a powerful and strong photograph. I have enjoyed researching my various artists and getting a further in depth knowledge on the artists lives and techniques with reasons behind their photographs and why they do the things they do. It has been a great pleasure to produce all of the work I have created with the photoshoots and experiments. I feel I have successfully captured the aim and ideas I wanted to captured at the start of my project and have showed them through my photoshoots. If I were to do this project again I would attempt to make more detailed photographs with more photoshoots. If I could I would find more artists to research different techniques. I did want to attempt underwater photography however I couldn't acquire a underwater camera or a water proof camera case. So if I were to do this again I would defiantly attempt some underwater photographs. I would also like to fill the background with realistic settings like I did in my first photoshoot using the bedroom. I feel a lot of my photoshoots during the end included simplification which was good but I would like to experiment with backgrounds of streets bedrooms and other everyday settings to make the photographs more powerful and or realistic. I feel some weakness in my work would be the difficulty finding Artists work as a lot of these artists produce fairly similar work as they document their own depression. If I had more time I would like to research and find more artists to look at and maybe even getting in contact with them.
