The Genre of this photograph is digital manipulation. The camera controls used for this is a shutter speed of 1/950 seconds while the aperture is f/3.6 while the ISO is ISO-200. these  give me the best quality  photographs for my final piece. Artificial light has been used on the sides of the subjects to brighten up the surroundings while natural light has been used in front of the subject to allow a natural look to the shadows and colour.

Visual Elements have been used in my photograph to help create the appeal and narrative. Line has been in the lines of the clothes which help add an extra layer to the subjects. Shape has been used with the areas defined by their edges this is present in the shape of the subjects as well as the particles or smoke from the dispersion effect coming off them. Form has been used with the three dimensional quality of the subjects width, length and height  this is present by the subjects space next to other either been in front or behind. The subjects have added a third dimension as one has his hand around the others neck strangling him while the other is holding the corresponding subjects arm for support adding a third dimension. Tone is used with the darkness and lightness with shading to emphasise the form. This is evidence with the shades of the colours within the piece as parts of the clothing create shadows darkening he subjects. Colour has been used by their various values, intensity and saturation this is evidence with the variety of colours both light and dark to portray each emotion and characteristic. Space is used  by the area taken up by the  subjects. This is evidence as the subjects are taking up the space within the photograph, while the of the image is taken up by the dispersion effect. Texture is used by the surface quality of the photograph this is evidence with the quality to the dispersion effect and the clothing of the subjects. Pattern is shown for the surface design, pattern, repetition and visual interest. We see pattern within the dispersion effect as well as visual interest with repetition of the subjects.

Vantage Points have also been used photograph to help create the appeal of the photograph. Vantage points have been used to give an eye level vantage point so we are level with the subject. Framing and cropping has been used as framing the subject and positioning them in different positions while cropping has been used to crop the surroundings from the al photographs to allow the subjects to appear together in one image. Rules of thirds have been used as the subjects on the end hit the axis of the rule. Rules of odds and evens has been used as there is a odd number of subjects within the piece however the meaning of the odd is not balanced or positive but rather aggressive and negative. Rules of triangles have been used within the dispersion effects. The rule of space has been used with the space helps the image look more dynamic while conveying a specific message. Symmetry is seen in the image as cutting down the middle it has equal balance on both sides. Repetition and pattern are used with Repetition been seen in the repetition of subjects while pattern is used with the dispersion effect. Simplification is used with the subjects having a empty wall behind them no environment is used but rather a empty single colour wall.

The narrative of my photograph is a story of schizophrenia the subject in the middle is an innocent male teenage in pain of the voices and personalities he must battle to control. It is breaking him apart into three personas. 1 The innocent child he is, two the aggressive and cruel and C the smart and kind version that wants to help. on the left of the version we see the confrontation between good and evil for the struggle of what goes on inside the males head. We see the aggressive subject is breaking apart into the innocent subject while the goodness he is strangling is blowing away fading.  On the other side the goodness is trying to comfort the badness and keep him undercontrol. The goodnesss on this side is also breaking away into the innocence while the aggression fades away.

Photo-shoot Title:
"Its All In Your Head"

Photo-Shoot Concept & Aim:

For my final piece the aim of my photoshoot is to blend elements of all my previous photoshoots together and create one big Final piece in the style of the various artists I have looked at through this project. The concept of the photograph will be to show mental disorders such as schizophrenia as we will see the subject battle with his own mind. The title of the piece "Its all in your head" is a reference to how mental disorder is a mental illness within the brain however it actually is a use of what many people brush off and say to people with mental disorders as they belittle them and call them liars to just "get over it".

Date & Timing:
This photo-shoot will take place on the 1st of May 2017 at 4pm. This time allows the room to be well lit as the sun will reflect directly on the subject while artificial studio lights can be used to brighten up the sides .It will take approximately half an hour to take the photographs but an estimated 3-4 hours to digitally manipulate the photographs.

Location:

This will take place in East Herrington within Sunderland. I will need no permission as this is my own property and so I can do to it what I will and need for the photoshoot.

Props:
The props used for my photoshoot will be the clothing used on the model. For one subject the character will wear a black t-shirt as seen in my third photoshoot for the refinement he will be wearing a red shirt unbuttoned so the black shirt is visible. This will be used to connotation him as the aggressive embodiment of the model. The second subject be sporting a suit, as seen previously in my 4th photoshoot. This portrays him as wealthy and stable as this embodiment fair and generous in one's behaviour or treatment of others, especially in a contest. The contest is which emotion, or personality comes out on top as the dominant one. The third and final subject will wearing a white t-shirt, as seen from my 6th photoshoot. He will also be wearing a cardigan stereotypically worn by females. This along with the white T-shirt will portray him as pure, innocent and fragile.

Models:
I myself will be in the shot. This will be a self portrait photograph influenced from styles of Laura Hospes. I have chosen myself as a model as it captures the audience I want to attract of males showing their stuggle with mental health. As 1 in 8 men are diagnosed with a common mental disorder such as depression and anxiety. As the rate of depression has increased by 70% in teenagers aged 16-19. This is because schizophrenia over 250,000 diagnosed cases in Britain. Relative prevalence of schizophrenia is double the amount of people who have Alzhelmers. 5 times higher than people with multiple scierosis. 6 times greater than people with insulin-dependent diabetes or muscular dystrophy. Therefore schizophrenia affects 2.2 million people in the United States alone.

Team:

The team consists of one person and that is myself. I will be doing the modelling as menationed earlier. I will also be in charge of the camera (it will be using a timer to take the photograph). I will also be digital manipulating my photograph and editing the photograph by myself.

Equipment  and Preparation:
The camera i have used for this photoshoot is a Fujifilm Finepix S9600 Camera with a Integrated 28-300mm lens. The batteries were fully charged before shoot. Additional lighting was used with a studio light facing the model to brighten the sides of the model up while natural light was used to reflect the front of the subject clearly for the camera to pick up. The ISO settings will be set to ISO-200 while the shutter Shutter Speed will be set on 1/950 seconds and an Aperture of  f/3.6.

Desired Shots:

My desired shot is to have the "Innocent" looking subject in the middle of frame blowing outwards he would then merge with the subject in the suit on one side who will be comforting the aggressive subject. while on the other side the aggressive subject will be harming the subject in a suit. The two outer subjects will be blowing away in smoke while the two inner one will be  joining the middle figure using pixelated type dispersion effects.

This refinement uses the orange and blue gradient effect that is have used in most my photographs mainly most famously in the fourth photo-shoot. This does allow my photography to have a vibrant colour however the subjects faces are to dark.

This refinement now brightens up the image to allow the viewer to clearly see the subjects red shirt and their faces.

This refinement plays with the contrast of the colours which creates that blue hue over the image however this now darkens the subjects faces on the far sides. But does freshen the subjects faces from further in.

For this refinement I tweaked the colour levels to brighten out the subjects faces at the end and make the blues more prominent. however in doing so I lost the backdrop and some of the dispersion effect.

For this refinement I removed the gradient effect and backdrop as I quite liked the white wall background as it helped the other colours stand out.

In the style of Edward Honaker and other artists such as Maren Klemp and Laura Hospes the photograph has been converted to black and white to remove colour from the image and thus removes colour and vibrancy and life and meaning like depression can do.

Further Refinement

This refinement brightens the subjects and the smoke and gives the subjects that soft glow like fire.

Evaluation

I believe my final piece has went well as I have successfully incorporated all my artist research  with influences from each artist or photograph to further develop my work. I believe the narrative has successfully came across. The use of both the smoke effect and the pixel dispersion effects has worked effectively and I believe to have been a success. My skills and development of the dispersion effect has clearly been shown here as the blend between the multiple dispersion effects are clearly merged with the subjects but don't block off the other subjects. The blend of pixels that join the centre figure with each subject on their side looks much better than the experiment I did previous. The colours used in the refinements have helped the photograph appeal more dynamic and add extra tone and contrast levels to the final piece. The costumes and choice of outfit have been a fantastic sport in creating individual narratives and as well as an overall narrative.

I believe the smoke effect could of been refined further to improve the quality of them further. The blending of the pixel effect on the right doesn't blend well with the arm or in front of the mouth and I feel I could of added a few more pixels so it doesn't look odd or obvious. A weakness of my work could be the centre figure as the dispersion effect eats his face he is positioned to look in pain so you can sea it is breaking him apart I feel the face needs to be more detailed and in shot than it is. Also a huge problem with my work is how wide the photograph actually is. Which could make it difficult to print off or display as its proportion of height:width isn't the best for a screen aspect ratio format.

If I were to further improve my work I would fix the weaknesses I have picked out and refine the smoke effects as well as add more pixels on the right where you can see the eraser brush has brushed them off. I cant think of a way I can help the aspect ratio and add more height to the photoshoot. However if I managed to get the full head to toe of the subjects I could make the photograph longer height wise and so that possibly could help.
