Photo-shoot Title:
"I Can never be the same when broken"

Photo-Shoot Concept & Aim:

This photography is going to be draw inspiration from Federico Bebber. The aim of this photoshoot is to further expand on my skills of dispersion trying a new effect. This photoshoot will look at how the mind can break and be broken and once it is broken it can never be fully put back together back to the way it was before .

Date & Timing:
This photo-shoot will take place on the 2017 at . This will be taken at this time and day because it is convenient for me.

Location:

This photograph will take place in East Herrington in Sunderland this is because it is a quite and accessible location for me to get to that has the facility of a plain white wall.

Props:

I will not need any props for this photograph as the subject and location as it all depends on the photoshop elements 14 package software to create this photoshoot.

Models:
I myself will be in the shot. This will be a self portrait photograph influenced from styles of Laura Hospes. I have chosen myself as a model as it captures the audience i want to attract of males showing their stuggle with mental health.

Team:

I will be my own team. I will be the model for the photograph as well as the editor. The camera will be on a stand with a timer set to take the photograph.

Equipment  and Preparation:

The camera i have used for this photoshoot is a Fujifilm Finepix S9600 Camera with a Integrated 28-300mm lens. The batteries were fully charged before shoot.

Desired Shots:

The desired shot I am looking for is the stance of a singular model standing in the entre of the image as a dispersion effect that looks like broken smashed glass fills the rest of the frame.

Aperture: f/3.6

Shutter Speed: 1/500

ISO: ISO-200

Artificial Light was used for this photo-shoot reflecting from the front this will allow the whole subject to clearly be seen as well as have the white reflect the light.  The Aperture used is f/3.6 with a shutter speed of 1/5000. Finally the ISO is set to ISO-200.

Composition is used within this photograph by use of Simplification. Simplification has been used by isolating the subject from the environment and placing him and only him in the frame this is done with the grey gradient that surrounds him. Repetition and pattern have also been used with the help of the dispersion effect as the brush texture of glass shattering are repeated through out the photograph. Rules of space is used with the use of having the subject in the centre and surrounding him with loads of space around him. Rules of triangles can be seen in the dispersion effect of the brush texture of glass shards as they are almost all in triangles. Rules of evens and odds is not applied as the meaning of having odd number of subjects isn't true as this photograph shows pain and distress instead of balance as the rule suggests. Rules of thirds again isn't used fully in this image as the subjects in the centre of the photograph instead of on one of the side axis. Framing  and cropping was used to first crop the original backdrop of the photograph out and framing the subject isolated in the centre.Vantage points where used showing a eye level shot. Using direct mode of address.

Visual Elements were also integrated within the photo-shoot with elements such as pattern. Pattern has been used with the pattern of the shattered glass. Texture was used with the surface quality of the subjects skin and hair  showing the ruffled hear or lines over his skin. Space was used as previously mentioned within composition as the subject is surrounded by an empty environment. Colour is used with the white of the shirt representing purity and innocence which contrasts the grey black background.Tone is used with the brightness and darkness of the shattered glass and the background gradient. Form can be seen as the arm stretches out and the glass gets larger adding that third dimension to the photograph.Shape is used with the triangles of the glass shattering.Lines can be seen with the dispersion effect again but also the lines on the hand adding depth to the skin.

The Narrative of this photograph comes from basic understanding of glass. Once it is broken and shattered no matter how hard you try to put it back together and how well you can, the cracks will always be there and all the elements you used to keep it together are lose and it can be broken even more easily. So using mental illness in the narrative along side connotations of glass and broken items once a persons mind has been broken they can never be fixed as it is impossible for them to like how they were as the cracks and the scars of who and how they once were are still their constantly and this is portrayed within my photograph.

Refinement Two

For the refinement of this photoshoot i didn't like how the glass didn't look like glass when the colour was pink / skin colour so i wanted to make them black and white (in the style of Edward Honaker) and i liked how it turned out as now the glass shatterings look alot more like actually glass shards

I wanted to further refine the black and white refinement as i felt more could be done with it. In this refinement i pushed up the contrast on the colours and made the white shirt glow while the black background went into a void. This i feel is a much better version than the previous refinement as it allows the grey subject to stand out against the backdrop then adding a three dimensional quality towards him.

Evaluation

I do like how the photograph turned out. There was a strong narrative to go off and i feel i have managed to bring that narrative into my photograph. I feel the photoshoot and the use of colour has also went very well and i am proud of it.
I feel like i could improve my photoshoot with a different background to take them on as the white shirt and white wall clashed. However it worked in the end but the dispersion effect didnt go according to plan as it didnt resemble glass loads and i wish i could get it to look more similar to glass so i feel it loses some elements of its visual elements with this issue.
If i were to do this again i would definitely improve my use of colour to help the overall effect on the photograph Another thing i would do differently if i were to do this again would be improve the dispersion effect greatly by making the glass more realistic. I could even add other ideas of glass by having glass cups or windows and have the subjects sort of reflection inside the glass object with cracks through it. To then add elements of relatablility with everyday home life items.
