Photo-shoot Title:
"I am My Demon"
Photo-Shoot Concept & Aim:
The aim of this photo-shoot is to create a visual representation of someone who suffers from a Paranoid Schizophrenia Disorder. Common symptoms for paranoid schizophrenia include auditory hallucinations (hearing voices) and paranoid delusions (believing everyone is out to cause the sufferer harm). However, two of the symptoms separate this form of schizophrenia from other forms. With this knowledge i can create a image in my head of what needs to be included to show these two symptoms
Date & Timing:
This photo-shoot will take place on the 3rd November at 3pm. This time allows the sun to shine through the window giving the subject some natural light and brightens them up allowing for a clear photograph. The light will also help create some shadows in the creases and folds of the model and their clothing so that in post production i can exploit them while changing the contrast bar,
Location:
This will take place in East Herrington with in a bed room. I will need no permission. This location will be seen from a medium shot on the subject as i must include their body and head. The camera will be positioned eye level with the subject yet far enough back to allow them to be seen with the majority of their body.
Props:
Little props are needed within this photoshoot as it is just a clean image of the model however appropriate clothing will be needed to create the best photograph.
Models:
To keep within the theme and style of Self Portrait photography I will be my own model this also goes with the audience in which i wish to attract showing males can have mental disorders.
Team:
There is no team needed as i will be working alone for this shoot. I have a tripod to stand the camera on and I shall set a timer for the camera to capture the photographs. Everything before will be set up my me and post production work will continue to be done by me, of course because this is my personal project.
Equipment and Preparation:
The camera I have used for this photoshoot is a Fujifilm Finepix S9600 Camera with a Integrated 28-300mm lens. The batteries were fully charged before shoot. Additional lighting was used with a studio light facing the model or pointing away to create dark shadows. The ISO settings will be set to ISO-200 while the shutter Shutter Speed will be set on 1/500seconds and an Aperture of f/4.5.
Desired Shots:
My desired shot is the subject to be standing alone against a while wall looking as tormented and broken as physically possible with a black bubble above his head to show the mouths of him and others which will represent the symptoms of this Disorder. The photograph will be converted into black and white with sections altered with different contrast levels to make the photograph dramatic.

Product
Genre of this photography is Digital Manipulation. Camera Control settings were set to have an Aperture of f/4.5. A Shutter Speed of 1/500 seconds. With an ISO of ISO-200. Artificial light was used both to shine on the subject and the skull. Composition was key for my photograph. Vantage Points were considered for this piece. Two have been used an eye level shot of the side of the subject and the low angle shot of the skull allowing the skull to be higher and looked up at. Framing and Cropping was used as i cropped out a large proportion of the original images and placed the skull and figure at opposite ends to one another. Rule Of Thirds has been considered as both subjects have been placed on each vertical vector allowing for the rule of thirds to apply. Rule Of Odds and Evens also apply to my photography as the two subjects will if applying this rule create tension. Rule Of Triangles can be Incorporated within my work as Triangles will be shown scattered between the string. Rule Of Space can be seen with the space between the subjects making the photograph more dynamic. Symmetry Was not used for my photograph. However the idea that the skull belongs to the subject could infer some symmetry within the piece. Repetition and Pattern Is evidence through the string and rope falling or tangling. Simplification is evident with the background this allows a clear focus on the subjects.
Visual Elements were considered to make an effective piece. Line is seen within the line of the rope. Shape can be seen with the three dimensional quality of the rope around the skull and subject. Form can be seen within my piece with the composition of the rope. Tone is evident within the darkness of the rope and the altered tone of the subjects light and dark areas. Colour is all black, grey or white this allows for a darker tone while still maintaining saturation. Space is present with the amount of space around each item within the photograph.Texture is used from the texture of the hair and string Rope allows Pattern to be used.
The Narrative of this piece is to show the struggle and desire people have to death. The skull represents death and the string used to control and capture the subject as he is entangled in it. The skull connotates the subject it is his skull his death that is after him. He is linked forever and tied to his final destination. Themes of suicide and self harm are evidence and are conveyed through this piece.
Evaluation
From this photoshoot i wanted to capture to create a visual representation of someone who suffers from a paranoid schizophrenia disorder. I wanted to have a floating skull to face a person and connect them via string.
I believe i have successfully achieved this with the string coming from the eye of the skull and tangling around the subject.
I believe i could improve this shoot by instead of using string which was hard to place within this photograph as during the editing process when i was removing the background it was very time consuming and took 2 months to edit out the background carefully and with precision even then there are parts where you can see i have missed which annoys me to look at. So to improve i could either fix the string and take more time editing. However i could edit with smoke instead of string.

Follow Up Progress
This will link into my next photoshoot with the subject being in pain close to death, tangled or stuck to an object.
