Photo-shoot Title:
"Drowning In A Sea Of Broken Thoughts"
Photo-Shoot Concept & Aim:
The aim of this photo-shoot is to create a visual representation of Anxiety Disorder and Claustrophobia. The pressure of the sea is a representation of this constantly changing mind set and the idea of drowning represents suffocation which people with Anxiety Disorders and Claustrophobia go through.
Date & Timing:
This photo-shoot will take place on the 17th September 2017 at 4pm. This time allows the sun to be at an appropriate height to shine towards the building and subject. Creating specific shadows and lighting.
Location:
This will take place in Farringdon Field. This is appropriate as the field will be high enough for the sun and has enough space around the subject to be standing in a isolated field with civilization behind. This will be a medium shot of the subject waist up.
Props:
Little props are needed within this photoshoot as it is just a clean image of the model however appropriate clothing will be needed to create the best photograph.
Models:
To keep within the theme and style of Self Portrait photography I will be my own model this also goes with the audience in which i wish to attract showing males can have mental disorders.
Team:
There is no team needed as i will be working alone for this shoot. I have a tripod to stand the camera on and I shall set a timer for the camera to capture the photographs. Everything before will be set up my me and post production work will continue to be done by me, of course because this is my personal project.
Equipment and Preparation:
The camera I have used for this photoshoot is a Canon EOS 1300D Digital SLR with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 DC III lens. The batteries were fully charged before shoot. Tripod was needed and i used a Manfrotto compact advanced aluminium tripod in black The ISO settings will be set to ISO-300 while the shutter Shutter Speed will be set on 1/50 seconds and an Aperture of f/3.6.
Desired Shots:
My desired shot is for the subject to be standing normally and alone, like an everyday person would. However the buildings and walls behind them will show the element of life and reality in the mise-en-scene while i will digitally manipulate the photograph to make the subject appear in water.

Product
The Genre of this photograph is Digital Manipulation. I have used a variety of Camera Control such as The Aperture which i have set to F/3.6, The Shutter Speed which i left on 1/50 seconds and finally ISO which was changed to ISO-300. Light was used by the sun to create the shadow effect on the subject.
VIsual Elements used in this photoshoot
Line - The tall grass creates line.
Shape - The building, Trees, and Subjects edges defined within the piece.
Form - The three dimensional qualities of the subjects width, height and depth
Tone - The tone of the the subjects clothes which are dark compared to the cold blue colours used for the water and sky.
Colour - Image tinted blue to match the water, makes the image feel colder.
Space - The surrounding space around the subject either "submerged" in water or above the surface.
Texture - The texture of the tall grass displays the surface quality of the work as well as the waves in the water.
Pattern - recurring grass all swaying in the same direction.
Composition i have used in this photoshoot are:
Vantage Points - Eyes level view, Medium close up, subject used direct mode of address to look directly at audience.
Framing and Cropping - Framing the subject to be standing within the centre of the work. Cropping the buildings to appear taller than the water.
Rule Of Thirds - Has not been used as the subject is not in the centre of the photograph. This is done purposely to make sure the photograph does not look "Right"
Rule Of Odds and Evens - Has not been used as odd numbers are meant to create balance but this photograph does not intend to create balance.
Rule Of Triangles - Have not been used to make sure that this photograph is not stable. Creating a better meaning
Rule Of Space - Used to surround the subject with everything that is going on around him while still squishing him with the water.
Symmetry - Is not necessarily used but has a faintly implemented.
Repetition and Pattern - As previously mentioned in visual elements, The grass in the wind.
Simplification. - Was not used for the aim of the photograph to be understood.
The Narrative of this photograph is to represent Claustrophobia and anxiety.Claustrophobia is the fear of being enclosed in a small space or room and unable to escape. It can be triggered by many situations or stimuli, including elevators crowded to capacity, windowless rooms, small cars, water and even tight-necked clothing. It is typically classified as an anxiety disorder, which often results in panic attacks. Claustrophobia is typically thought to have two key symptoms: fear of restriction and fear of suffocation. This picture has the narrative of a subject being surrounded by everyday life (the grass, nature, the buildings, man made - human things) yet the entrapment to confine to a single space is brought by the water, which traps and in rough conditions can frighten and suffocate its victims.

What i wanted from the shoot:
I wanted to represent an anxiety disorder and possible claustrophobia.
Did I achieve this?
I believe i have created connotations around these disorders and phobias within this image however i am not overly confident. To me this my least favorite photoshoot and i am unhappy with my work and believe i could of done so much better. However i wanted to try a new technique and reference images using similar styles to this really sparked y interest to experiment in this design, As i wanted to try and create something as visually dramatic as the photographs i have seen like this
How can I Improve Further?
I do not like the outcome of this photoshoot and believe i could do better. A way to improve this photoshoot would be to continue experimenting in this style to refine the process of creating this allowing me to improve the end product. Another aspect of the photoshoot i would like to change is the composition of the subject as for this photograph i wanted my subject to look bland and emotionless, however i feel it doesn't create an effective piece. Possible location and mise-en-scene choices will also need to be considered to create a better photograph.
Follow Up Progress
This will link into my next photoshoot by using real life environments for my backdrop.
