Photo-shoot Title:
"So Young, So Damaged"

Photo-Shoot Concept & Aim:

The aim of this photo-shoot continues a narrative from the previous photoshoot as well as implement some experiments in the style of Alex Stoddard and Rosie Hardy. The idea of depression and loss from the last photoshoot with the arrow piercing the male Is continued however this time the woman he is with and seeks comfort in will stab him in the back. This will be used to portray the concept of a delusional disorder as well as a relationship obsessive compulsive disorder. Has thurther connotations of domestic violence aimed at men and how Women can abuse females as well.

Date & Timing:
This photo-shoot will take place on the 26th November 2017 at 5pm. This allows the sky to go dark enough for the mood to be set as well as keeping the subjects bright enough to see

Location:

This will take place in "Farra Woods" . I will need no permission as this is public land, and is forgotten and abandoned as it was previously a skate park before it was flooded. This location will be seen from a medium long shot so both subjects can be clearly seen with enough background behind.

Props:
The props I will need for this photoshoot is a female model. Along with a few tubs of fake blood to put on the male subject. The Female must need a red dress and the arrow I can digitally place within the photograph after.

Models:
To keep within the theme and style of Self Portrait photography I will be my own model this also goes with the audience in which I wish to attract showing males can have mental disorders. However I will also need a female model for my shoot. This will be needed to display the concept and aim of my work.

Team:

I will need a small team. My two models (one of which is myself) will be needed to complete this photoshoot. As well as an assistant to stand with the camera so it does not get stolen or broke around the Farringdon area. I will leave the camera on timer and I will digitally manipulate the image afterwards.

Equipment  and Preparation:
The camera I have used for this photoshoot is a Canon EOS 1300D Digital SLR with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 DC III lens. The batteries were fully charged before shoot. Tripod was needed and i used a Manfrotto compact advanced aluminium tripod in black The ISO settings will be set to  ISO-300 while the shutter Shutter Speed will be set on 1/500 seconds and an Aperture of  f/5.6.

Desired Shots:

My desired shot is to have the female subject standing on the left side of the shot. Her front will be visible to the camera while the male subject will have his back to the camera and be curled up with his arms wrapped around.

Reference Images:

The Genre of my photography is Digital Manipulation. Digital Manipulation photography is images that have been altered using editing software to add an effect or warp the image into something so surreal, so creative that it can speak a thousand words and have so much meaning. The Aperture was set to f/5.6. The Shutter Speed was set to 1/5000 seconds. The ISO was set to ISO-300. Natural Light was used for this photograph. It was raining and so the clouds were grey allowing for a better look for the over all photograph. Artificial light was used and tested but for this photograph it was not used and it makes it look more grainy.

Visual Elements have been used. Line can be seen on the male subjects ribs as well as lines on the creases of the girls dress. Lines are Actual or implied Lines within the composition and was also used on the arrows that are digitally placed within the photograph. Shape is used within my piece on the arrow and rocks within the subject this is because shape is the areas defined by their edges within the piece. Form has been shown by the three dimensional qualities of both subjects this is because form is the three dimensional quality of an object or shape its length, width and depth. Tone is heavily used within my work as the water is made darker around the subjects while the subjects have lighter tones. This is because tone describes the darkness or lightness of a particular area in an image. Shading from light to dark tone is often used to emphasize the form ( an objects three dimensional quality).Colour is used with this photograph as the green from the grass will contrast the red from the blood and the dress. This is because colour are the hues with their various values, intensity and saturation. The next visual element of photography that i have incorporated within my work is space. Space is defined as the space taken up by objects or the space in between objects ( sometimes called negative space)and this can be seen where the entire left side of my photograph has been left blank or has a lack of subjects. Texture is shown with the texture of the skin of the male subject and the leaves and green life. This is because texture is the surface qualities of artwork. Pattern can faintly be seen in the lines of grass. Pattern is Surface designs, repetition, visual interest. and we can see repetition in wildlife.

A range of compositions have been used to achieve this photograph. Vantage Points is one of them, vantage points are a position or standpoint from which something is viewed. Angle, Eye view, Outlook, slant, perspective and viewpoint. This vantage point is a high angle as it looks (slightly) down on the subjects. Another competition i have used is Framing and Cropping. This is because i have framed the subjects to the right of the photograph and cropped it so their heads and feet are on the top and bottom of the photograph allowing it to be closer to them.I have used a selection of photograph one of which is the Rule Of Thirds. This rule indicates that the image can divide into thirds and if  the main visual components (things in the image) lie on or near the lines then the image often tends to look 'right'. This can be seen as the right verticle sector is where the subjects lands on. Another Rule Of Odds and Evens which is defined as an even number of 'things' in an image can sometimes create a feeling of tension or a slightly un-natural look...while an odd number of 'things' can often create a feeling of harmony or balance. This is shown as there are only two subjects and this photograph has a slight un-nautral look to it creating tension and drama. Rule Of Triangles can be shown in the bend in the subjects arms creating triangles. Triangles have 3 sides and tend to form stable solid looking compositions The last rule is the Rule Of Space which allows the image to appear more dynamic whilst conveying specific meaning or messages. This is seen as the subjects have loads of space thanks to the rule of thirds and helps convey the message of my work.Symmetry is not used with in this piece as it is when the image is equally balanced ( No symmetry would be asymmetrical, therefore this image is asymmetrical) Repetition and Pattern, as previously mentioned in visual elements,  can be used to suggest texture, or can produce an abstract visual experience. and has been briefly used within the grass. Simplification. was not used

The Narrative of this photograph shows a delusional disorder. Delusions are fixed beliefs that do not change, even when a person is presented with conflicting evidence. Delusions are considered "bizarre" if they are clearly implausible and peers within the same culture cannot understand them. Delusional disorder is distinct from schizophrenia and cannot be diagnosed if a person meets the criteria for schizophrenia. If a person has delusional disorder, functioning is generally not impaired and behavior is not obviously odd, with the exception of the delusion. It also portrays Relationship Obsessive Compulsive Disorder this is  a form of obsessive-compulsive disorder focusing on intimate relationships (whether romantic or non-romantic). Such obsessions can become extremely distressing and debilitating, having negative impacts on relationships functioning. Obsessive-compulsive disorder comprises thoughts, images or urges that are unwanted, distressing, interfere with a person's life and that are commonly experienced as contradicting a persons' beliefs and values. People may continuously doubt whether they love their partner, whether their relationship is the right relationship or whether their partner really loves them. When they know they love someone or that someone loves them, they constantly check and reassure themselves that it is the right feeling. When they attempt to end the relationship, they are overwhelmed with anxiety. By staying in the relationship, however, they are haunted by continuous doubts regarding the relationship. The use of the female has been used as females generally convey connotations of beauty, gentleness,  sensitivity, caring, sweetness, compassion, nurturance. Yet here the female is the one inflecting the pain onto the main subject. We can have denotations that the two are in a relationship and the female is hurting, or rather killing, the male this is shown physically here but the message is mentally and emotionally as she has also left an arrow where his heart is. This Furthermore it shows connotations of male domestic abuse.

What i wanted from the shoot:
I wanted to create the idea of depression and loss to portray the concept of a delusional disorder as well as a relationship obsessive compulsive disorder. Continuing the idea from the last photoshoot
Did I achieve this?
I believe i have successfully achieved this with the location the photograph has been taken in as well as the composition of the blood and arrows as well as the woman in the red dress.
How can I Improve Further?

To further improve my work i could change the composition of the man making him appear more week. However During editing i have taken some of the saturation out of the colour of the dress which i feel weakens the photograph and so i would like to boost up the saturation's again.

This refinement adds a brown colour gradient over the photograph. Brown is the colour of the earth and this is why i have used it as the background is mainly brown and green from either trees, mud or water.

This refinement in the style of Sin City by Frank Miller removes all colour from the image apart from the colour red. This colour pop effect is used to draw focus to the female in the dress and the blood coming from the subject caused by the female and the three arrows she has placed in the subjects back.

While creating my Mental Health Awareness photograph experiment i produced this refinement. This has cropped the photograph down to remove the identity (faces) of the two subjects and focus in closer on their body while darkening the photograph from the left that gets lighter to the right. The red has also been altered to make it more darker. This shocks audiences who view it and grabs the attention of the readers.
