Photo-shoot Title
"Here We Go Again"
Photo-Shoot Concept & Aim:
The aim of this photo-shoot is to create a visual representation of someone who suffers Insomnia which is the habitual sleeplessness; inability to sleep.
Date & Timing:
This photo-shoot will take place on the 24th September 2017 at 1pm. This time allows the sun to reflect the white sheet brightening the image. The light from the sun will help contrast the white blanket and outfit with the skin of the subject.
Location:
This will take place in East Herrington with in a bed room. I will need no permission. This location will be seen from a medium shot on the subject as i must include their body and head. The camera will be positioned birds eye view over the subject to make sure it is looking down at the subject.
Props:
I will need a king sized white blanket, which i purchased from Primark for £6.89. and two white shirts which i bought from Next for £8 each, one i will wear and the other i will wrap around my head.
Models:
To keep within the theme and style of Self Portrait photography I will be my own model this also goes with the audience in which i wish to attract showing males can have mental disorders.
Team:
There is no team needed as i will be working alone for this shoot. I have a tripod to stand the camera on and I shall set a timer for the camera to capture the photographs. Everything before will be set up my me and post production work will continue to be done by me, of course because this is my personal project.
Equipment and Preparation:
The camera I have used for this photoshoot is a Fujifilm Finepix S9600 Camera with a Integrated 28-300mm lens. The batteries were fully charged before shoot. Additional lighting was used with a studio light facing the model or pointing away to create dark shadows. The ISO settings will be set to ISO-200 while the shutter Shutter Speed will be set on 1/750 seconds and an Aperture of f/3.2.
Desired Shots:
My desired shot is to have the subject isolated on his bed and surround him with only the white ruffles of the blanket and have the subject in the middle of the photograph in a white shirt with another one covering his face but with his features ( of screaming and distress) visible.

The genre of this photograph is Digital Manipulation. The Shutter speed I selected for this work was 1/750 seconds. The aperture was F/3.2 while the ISO was set to ISO-200. This was to help me get the best possible photograph for this photoshoot.
Visual Elements are used throughout work. My use of Line has been shown with the wavy and creased lines from the sheet an the shirt. This represents instability and a constantly changing mind set. The denotations of the creases show a messy bedroom and a untidy attitude while connotations of this show ones mind-set being in constant flux.
Shape is present in this photograph with the edges defined within the piece shown on the multiple shapes constructed with the body of the subject. The subjects lies in the centre of the photograph with his arms out stretched and holding his head.
Form can be seen with the three dimensional quality of the subject standing in the frame, The width, length and height are all present on the subject. The position of the subject creates this with arms and chest. His chest bumped up and arms stretched and tensed out and behind his head represents pain and tension the subject is suffering.
The colour has been used by darkening the outside of the bed and surroundings to make you focus on the character. Colour was also used to contrast the dark surroundings with the white of the sheets and shirt. Colour was digitally manipulated to make the white a brighter white to represent purity and innocence.
Space is present in this photograph with subject being positioned in the centre this allows the surroundings of the photograph to surround him, the subject is left in this blank white frame along. The outfit allows for the subject to merge with the space.
Texture can be seen with the surface of the subjects face being pressed against the sheet .
The visual element of pattern is used with the pattern and repetition of the crease of the sheets.
Composition is used in within my photograph as vantage points can be seen as the perspective view point is taken from a high angle shot of a birds eye view. This is so the audience looks down on the subject within the photograph.
Framing has been used with in my piece as i have positioned the framing so the subject is in the centre of the photograph with even space to the left and the right of the image this is to make it look symmetrical on either side.
I have applied the rules of thirds as the subject rests in the middle and centre of the shot. If the main visual components (things in the image) lie on or near the lines then the image often tends to look 'right' which the subject in the middle this allows the photograph to not look 'right'.
The use of the rules of odds and evens is not used within this photograph as an odd number of 'things' is meant to display a balanced photograph but this communicates isolation.
The rule of triangles has been used with triangles present in the folds of the subjects arms. This creates a solid composition.
The use of space is is used to make the photograph more dynamic, The subject has been placed in the centre and is surrounded by the space around him this helps creates the dynamic feel by showing the image characterised by its constant change and activity with the surrounding (bed sheets) drawing and pushing to the subject.
Symmetry was not used in this photograph to convey a more clustered message.
Repetition and pattern can be seen used in this photoshoot as the patterns of the folds and creases on the bed sheet repeats around the subject and the symmetry.
Elements of Simplification have been used. Not to the pure extend of having a plain coloured background as normal simplification is but instead has one white bed to be used as the background. The black elements out of the bed are simplification but also give the photograph less simplification by having more content.
The narrative of this piece is to communicate ideas of insomnia which is habitual sleeplessness; inability to sleep. Common symptoms of insomnia are, difficulty falling asleep at night, irritability, depression and anxiety. And during this photograph we see the subject in bed conveying that they want to sleep

What i wanted from the shoot:
I wanted to represent the mental health condition of Insomnia. Showing a subject in a restless state with an inability to sleep.
Did I achieve this?
I believe i have successfully created the representation of a subject struggling to sleep, The idea of someone battling with their mind and head to sleep has been shown. I a proud with the work produced. The composition of the subject and the mise-en-scene of the piece along side the visual elements of colour and tone are the best features of this photograph.
How can I Improve Further?
I could improve this photoshoot by instead of using a mask to suffocate the subject instead using transparent cooking paper where then i can show that mental disorders may not be physical present and we cannot see them but can make someone feel trapped and stuck struggling to breath, move and get out.
This refinement was created as the original photograph was taken with my old camera and dimensions are around the hundreds to 1000 while the new photoshoot using the new camera and equipment has aloud for a better higher quality photograph that dimensions reach 5000. This is to help incase i want to develop this specific photoshoot further with my final outcome.
Follow Up Progress
This will link into my next photoshoot by using the bedroom setting as my environment
