These Five Subjects
(From left to right IS, JC, LF, JD, CJ)
These subjects will go through the before and after stage of coming into contact with the natural elements of earth.
Stage 1
Will show the photographs how they truly were before the destruction begins
Stage 2
This stage will show only a bit of the destruction. Not reaching 25%
Stage 3
This stage will show almost 50% desctuction of the photographs from the elements
Stage 4
This stage will see the 100% destruction from the elements on the photographs

This was a trail run for my challenge work using the inspiration of Marija Stranjnic's fifth element self destruction series. The first one was soil and that went really well covering the subject in earth. The second one of water didnt go very well as the photo kept floating on top. I had to make the water dirty to see it better, even that didnt work to Marija Stranjnic's level. Thethird one was burning which had a few problems and wouldnt burn for long and kept going out. The fourth one was going to be smoke however as i had no way of getting smoke i changed it to scratching which turned out quite well. The fifth and final one was ice this worked well however capturing a photograph was hard as the ice was hard to see through. The photograph was places in a glove filled with water and froze for over 24 hours after the glove was ripped off and this was the finished product.
This is the full inspired work. The first one shows the self destruction of scratching. We clearly see the scratching getting worse and worse consuming the subjects face. The second one was water. I had issues hear as i would take the photograph of the series on a 45 degree angle so i could see the surface of the water, the photograph going in and the underneath of the water this proved difficult as when the image came into contact with the water it would bend and start to float and the water could not be seen. I lay the photograph down and let the bath fill up with dirty water the photo was covered by the water well however it had to be done of a birds eye vantage point and when looked at its hard to see its water and not just mud. The muddy colour of the mud just blends with the orange coloured light. The photograph then didnt slowly get covered in water as it just sunk straight to the bottom and floated around making it hard for me to capture a straight photograph of its process. The third one of fire also proved difficult to create as the photograph would not burn and would go out if it did catch alight. The fire only started after i sprayed flammable gasses onto the photograph which successfully allowed the photograph to burn however it burned extremely fast and so the photographs of the burning image are not the best quality as i had to take them in fast speeds. The final one of mud went very well and as planned with the photograph getting slowly covered in mud and then 100% completed.
