Fashion photography is a genre used to showcase the latest clothes designed, the newsest gadgets or models and accessories. Theses photographs are used for magazines and websites.
I love the simplicity of Jarek Duk's photography of the man. the grey colouring of the world behind him really lets the model stand out to show case the outfit. Grey connotates formal and emotionless just like the expression on the mans face. this showcases the outfit off well as i like this outfit. The long coat and formal shoes with the casual sweater and trousers.
Now this photo of the female model is the polar opposite to the man. The women has bright lights and is surrounded by alot of objects. The red of the background connotates love this is clearly seen with the wedding and love me written behind the woman. This could suggest the desire of womens beauty. The lovely glittery gold dress connotates compassion. The twinkles of the light reflectin off the dress is eye catching and makes you focus on the women at hand. This is more of a party outfit and is clearly shown with the setting o what appears to be a bar while the casual man was simply walking the street.
The use of lighting in these photos play a key role into the photographs. The one of the man uses key light which is the main source of light in a scene that ensures the subject is lit. The light is white which connotate comfot and peace and contrasts the mans dark set of clothes making them stand out more.
The photograph of the woman uses alot of backlight which is light positioned behind the subject used with a key light to create shadows. This photo will use source light which is lighting that appears to be natural, but very rarely is. A three point lighting system is used to reduce shadows and be flattering to the character. The Red colours of the light that scream lust and love connotate the look of the woman this model is portraying.
I Believe Jarek Duk is trying to communicate the message of modern day living shown in very different themed photographys the very formal working business outfit represents the appropriate and expected outfit for the day time when you will be seen by people in an everyday world. While the very glamorous and sparkly dress that represents the expected and typical outfit choice for going out at night to enjoy yourself and let loose definitely communicates with the audience that theses outfits he has captures and these outfits is what we should have and what we should be wearing. He achieves this with his use of Shape and form in the photographs, centring the models so they are what we see first and see we can see they are the most important thing in the image
