Framing and Cropping

Cropping refers to the removal of the outer parts of an image to improve framing, accentuate subject matter or change aspect ration. Depending on the application, this may be performed on a physical photograph or piece of artwork

This photograph was taken by Rodchenko. The idea of cropping can be seen in the various images on the left. Each crop shows a different emotion such as sadness or isolation. whether the man stands alone and looks into space alone, Or if he stands with a bright path in front of him. This can create tension to shock viewers eyes or engage with their hearts.

This photograph was taken by Rodchenko. The idea of cropping can be seen in the various images on the left. The different ways to crop an image shows us a different emotion of the woman such as depression, stress or anxiety. Whether she is all alone with no one beside her or if she is tired of the screams and crashing of thoughts in her head represented in the metaphor of the waves and the endless sea. This creates tension as some people may emphasise while others may sympathise.

The ISO for this photograph was set to ISO-200 and the shutter speed was on 1/200 seconds while the F-stop was set to f/3.2. I have created this photograph using inspiration from Rodchenko to produce the composition of cropping and framing. Shown in the first crop we see the women run into space creates the emotion of adventure and travel. While the second crop isolates the flowers and the light crass and only keeps the dark trees in the photograph giving the feeling of running from your problems and your darkness. My skills of visual elements have been shown in this as the use of tone and space for the photograph can be seen with the colours and brightness of the trees

I have took inspiration from Rodchenkos work in mood using women sitting down to create a sad emotional photograph. This photographs shutter speed was set to 1.9 seconds with its f-stop on f/5.6 while the ISO was ISO-200. This photograph creates composition of cropping and framing from inspiration of Rodchenko and his photograph of the girl on the beach. Both of the cropping effects alter the context of the photograph from love to loneliness. As the subjects are seen with either the empty space in front of them (Seen in the landscape photograph) or with the message of having thoughts in your mind ( shown in the portrait photograph) The photograph that is have not been cropped uses visual elements such as tone as one side of the tree has lighter colour leaves while the other side has darker.
