John Decker is a well experienced photographer with over 20 years of experience. He is highly recognised as his work has been shown in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times and Newsweek Time. He recently worked with Arnold Schwarzenegger traveling the world documenting historical moments and activities of the governors and First Lady Maria Shriver.
Documentary Photography is a popular art of catching historical and significant events in time in chronological order as well as everyday life
Johns photo of the alley way is is a powerful image. What appears to be a white man smocking holding the other males child as the male drinks what I would presume to be alcohol. They are in a black alley only made more emotional by the black and white effect to make the mood more dark and depressing.
When we look at these photos we get a sensation of fear and dread. we can see the expression of distress in the young childs face that John Decker has captured which is directly opposite the calmness expressions of those men with the boy. The sadness has been entesified by the filer of black and white as it really captures the heart and emotion f the depression.
I strongly believe John Decker has aimed to communicate with the world the hard ships of some places in the world showing the poverty and struggles some people go through. He communicates this using black and white filter effects with the tones contrasting each other making either the white or the black stand out against the other. space and form can also be seen in the photograph.
