Fine Art

Andreas Poupoutsis

Andreas Poupoutsis is a Greek photographer. He uses his face as a canvas capturing mysterious portraits to make the audience question the meaning of his photographs as everyone is unique in their own way . He aims to break challenge the conventional and normal ways of photographs

Fine art photography is photographs created with the intentions of the artists vision and ideas on their perception of the world.

I am fascinated by Andreas photograph. He image of a black background clearly shows the main focus of the image and that’s the bright white face. If we look at the face it shows no emotion but the pulling of the material to me represent the soul of that person been sucked away. Like the life is leaving them. This is interesting as it can either mean that one is losing themselves or that the mask they wear is coming off, they are opening up.

The white face contrasts the black clothing the model wears making them fade into the background of the mise-en-scene. The blank soulless face is quite sinister and could be a reference the the creepy pasta of the 'SlenderMan' a being that is very creepy that strikes fear and alarm into peoples hearts.

I believe Andreas Poupoutsis attempts to communicate madness towards us. A Sense of identity loss or some kind of disorder. He achieves this with his use of tone showing the darkness contrasting with the light. Not only does he use tone and some qualities of space but he uses textures shown with the texture of the surface quality of the stocking on his head.
