Digital Manipulation

Erik Almas

Erik Almas over the years has acquired multiple awards. Some annual awards he has won multiple years in a row such as the “Communication Arts Photo Annual” or the “Photo District News Photo Annual”

Digital Manipulation photography is images that have been altered using editing software to add an effect or warp the image into something so surreal, so creative that it can speak a thousand words and have so much meaning and represent the littlest emotion to something huge truly identifying the power women actually have and how strong of a gender they truely are. This photo challenges steriotypes with his use and access to digital manipulation makes it possible to achieve his idea.

Erik Almas photographys are so creative and beautiful In his first image it shows a woman holding up a whole train and its carriages (which will varies between 20 – 120 tonnes) which symbolises women’s power and strength as they are seen as the weaker gender while in reality are just as strong as males. It shows the unlimited power of a human, we are capable of unbelievable strengths. She is seen to wear a cape that is Intertextuality to Super girl. The colours are different shades of blue and blue is usually connotates with stability and symbolizes confidence and comfort as it is beneficial to the human mind by having a calming effect.

The Second photograph shows a daytime bedroom of yellow, which connotates sunshine happiness and has a warming effect and cheerfulness. It shows a woman go through a portal to an alternate night time room this time blue to again connotates comfort, heaven and trust. The night time scene and the portal symbolises a dream world. As we see the woman leaves the bed in her Pyjamas to be transported to wearing a beautiful dress in front of a gentleman who has more dresses waiting. The beauty of the images with the smoothness of the portal the woman goes through. The digitally manipulated images manage to make the mind think and imagine and wonder of these far off dreams and these photos showcase how it is possible. These photos keep a sense of realism even tho the feeling you feel when looking at the photo is a dreamy sense of weightlessness..

I believe Erik Almas is trying to communicate the idea of dreams, strength and power. He achieves this with his use of colour and their values and intensity. He uses space to establish the look and luxury the photographs include. Also including the visula elements of Form and shape in the train and the bedroom.
